Project valuation is commonly used for building permits to calculate fees. Civic Review can automatically calculate this valuation for you, but there are times when you may need to adjust it manually.
How Valuation is Calculated
Valuation formulas are set up in the Form Settings of your Civic Review account.
Navigate to the form type settings for your Building Permit.
In the top right corner, click the Valuation button.
Here, you can set up a custom formula for calculating valuation. This is often based on local codes (e.g., IBC code) and factors like square footage.
When an applicant enters the required information (such as square footage), Civic Review uses this formula to automatically calculate the project valuation. This calculation will override any valuation amount manually entered by the applicant.

How to Edit Valuation in an Application
There are two common scenarios for editing a project's valuation.
Scenario 1: Adjusting Valuation by Editing Square Footage
Use this method if the applicant entered the wrong square footage, which in turn caused an incorrect valuation.
Edit the application. In the application, scroll down to the "Permit Details" section and click the Edit button.
Update the square footage. Change the square footage field to the correct number.
Save your changes.
Refresh the valuation. Find the Refresh Valuation button in the top right corner of the "Permit Details" section. Click it to force Civic Review to recalculate the valuation based on the new square footage.
Scenario 2: Directly Editing the Valuation Amount
Use this method if the square footage is correct but the valuation needs to be adjusted for a special case.
Edit the application. In the "Permit Details" section, click the Edit button.
Edit the valuation field. Directly enter the correct dollar amount in the valuation field.
Save your changes.
When you enter your own valuation, you do not need to click the Refresh Valuation button.
How to Update Fees to Reflect New Valuation
After you have adjusted the valuation, you must manually refresh the fees to ensure they are calculating off the corrected valuation.
Go to the Fees section. From the application's main page, navigate to the fees section.
Refresh the fees. At the bottom of the list of fees, click the Refresh Fees button.
This will prompt Civic Review to recalculate all fees based on the new valuation, ensuring the amounts are accurate.
That's it! You are now an expert on valuation. Way to go!
